Admission Requirements
Preliminary Administrative Services Credential Admission Requirements
Admission standards for graduate studies at California Baptist University can be found in the Admissions section of the University Catalog. Specific admission requirements for the credential program in Preliminary Administrative Services are:
- Possess one of the following Valid Credentials
- A clear or life California teaching credential that requires a baccalaureate degree and a program of professional preparation, including student teaching or the equivalent, and holds an English learner authorization; or
- A clear of life California designated subjects teaching credential in adult education, career technical education, vocational education or special subjects, provided the applicant also possesses a baccalaureate degree, and holds an English learner authorization; or
- A clear or life California services credential in pupil personnel services, health services for school nurse, teacher librarian services, or speech-language pathology or clinical or rehabilitative services requiring a baccalaureate degree and a program of professional preparation, including field work or the equivalent.
- Meet the Basic Skills Requirement
- Passage of the California Basic Educational Skills Test (CBEST); or
- Pass basic skills test from another state; or
- Pass CSET multiple subjects plus writing skills examination; or
- Pass the CSU Early Assessment program or the CSU placement examinations; or
- Achieve qualifying score on SAT or ACT; or
- Achieve qualifying score on Advanced Placement (AP) examinations
- Verification of four years of Successful Experience (to be confirmed by letter from Human Resources from the appropriate organization)
- Full-time teaching experience with an employing agency as defined in Title 5 of the California Code of Regulations
- Full-time experience in fields of pupil personnel, school nurse, teacher librarian, or speech-language pathology, or clinical or rehabilitative services with an employing agency as defined in Title 5 of the California Code of Regulations
- A combination of the first two options
- Grade Point Average
- A minimum 3.0 GPA for unconditional admission and a minimum 2.75 GPA for conditional admission
- Applicants who do not meet the minimum GPA may be considered for admission with the presentation of a minimum combined score of 300 on the verbal and quantitative sections of the Graduate Record Exam (GRE) or a passing score on the California Subject Examination for Teachers (CSET)
- Candidates must maintain a minimum semester 3.0 GPA throughout the program
- Three Recommendations, completed on forms provided, from professional sources who can address your potential for success. Family members and friends may not complete recommendations
- Comprehensive Essay of at least 500 words that includes the following:
- Purpose for entering the program
- Why you are suited to be an educator
- Reasons for choosing to study at California Baptist University
- Interview with the Program Director
- Acceptance by the Director of the Credential Program

Program Requirements (18 units)
Candidates who complete this coursework qualify for the California Preliminary Administrative Services Credential. The credential authorizes candidates to serve in a variety of educational leadership positions at school sites including assistant principal and principal as well as serving in district positions requiring an administrative credential.
