The liberal arts major exposes students to the breadth and depth of human knowledge through study of the humanities and sciences as well as through specialization in one or more concentrations. Students are well prepared to think deeply and creatively, developing the intellectual flexibility to explore and evaluate a wide range of problems and solutions from multiple perspectives, including a biblical worldview. Students in this major are equipped to serve in local and global contexts as well-rounded citizens whose interdisciplinary skills and knowledge enable them to contribute to human flourishing.

Traditional Major Program Requirements (97-109 units)

Languages

Complete twelve (12) units from the following areas; at least six (6) units must have the same prefix:

Literature

  • ENG 2xx (one course, excluding ENG 200)

Complete nine (9) units from the following:

Science

Select twelve (12) units from at least two of the following areas (prefixes):

  • BIO
  • CHE
  • ENV
  • PHY

Capstone

This capstone can be co-located or replaced with another three (3) units capstone course with instructor and department chair approval.

Concentration Courses (12 units) Optional Second Concentration (12 units)

Students must select at least one concentration of twelve (12) upper division units in one of the following areas: Art History; American Studies; American Sign Language; Anthropology; Biology; British Studies; Business Administration; Chemistry; Children’s Literature; Christian Behavioral Science; Christian Studies; Communications;Creative Writing; Criminal Justice; Early Childhood Studies; English Language and Literature; Entrepreneurship; Environmental Science; European Studies; Film Studies; Global Studies; History; Humanities; Intercultural Studies; Interdisciplinary Studies; Journalism and News Media; Kinesiology; Leadership; Marketing; Mathematics; Music; Philosophy; Political Science; Psychology; Public Relations; Real Estate Management; Science; Single Discipline Specialization; Sociology; Social Work; Spanish; Spanish for Teachers; Statistics; Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL); Visual Media; Worship Arts; Writing. Students may not use any courses for both the core and concentration requirements. 

Students have the option of selecting a second concentration of twelve (12) upper division units but may not reuse any courses from the core and first concentration.

(Students should plan to take BIO 146 in the Science core.)

Complete twelve (12) units from at least two areas (prefixes) from the following courses:

Complete twelve (12) upper division units in CHE.

(Students should plan to take CHE 115, 115L, 125, and 125L in the Science core.)
