The Bachelor of Music in Composition for Stage and Screen prepares students with the fundamental musical skills, technical competencies, stylistic understanding, creative tools, and artistic cultivation to successfully pursue a career in music composition. Highlights of the program include strong theoretical and musicianship training, thorough studies in history and literature from a variety of styles and periods, study of compositional techniques from early to contemporary composers, extensive studies in music technology, and performance training in a major instrument, which includes private study with CBU faculty and consistent engagement with professional performers through residencies and masterclasses. Students in the program will also be required to actively compose and perform throughout their tenure in the program. These performances include individual solo performances, a capstone composition recital, opportunities to compose for CBU ensembles and have new student works performed, and collaborative performances in a wide cross-section of stylistic genres.
