Additional Course Fees
California Baptist University course lab fees are designed to ensure a student has funds available at the beginning of the semester to train within the syllabus of that flight course. CBU tuition does not include flight course costs and fees. Flight lab fees are based on FAA approved syllabus for each course and cover ground, simulator, and flight training. Flight course lab fees are due to CBU Student Accounts prior to a student beginning any flight lab and are unique to each flight course.
To receive clearance to participate in a flight lab, students must meet all financial clearance requirements and complete full payment with verified funds to cover their flight lab fee. Once cleared to fly, the lab fee amount billed to the student’s student account will be credited to the student’s flight fee account. Students are responsible for accessing and tracking their flight fee accounts through the TALON/ETA system incorporated on the flight line. If for any reason a student’s flight fee account falls below the required minimum balance, the University may place a hold on the student’s academic progress, until the flight account is restored to good standing.
Students will have the entire semester to complete the flight lab in which they are enrolled. In order to pass a flight lab, students must meet each flight lab’s student learning outcomes. Inability to achieve the outcomes will result in a failing grade. If the student learning outcomes for the flight lab are not achieved by the end of semester due to reasons beyond the student’s control (weather, aircraft maintenance, etc.), a Satisfactory Progress (SP) will be issued, allowing the student to continue the flight lab in the subsequent semester. Any unused funds remaining on a student’s flight account can be used in the subsequent semester.
If a student with an SP does not meet the student learning outcomes for the flight lab in which they are enrolled within the subsequent three semesters, the student will receive a failing grade for the lab. The student, in consultation with the Department of Aviation Sciences (Department), may have the option to enroll in the lab again, incurring an additional lab fee.
If a student is found unable to meet the standards in flight (sickness/fear/low situational awareness/physically unable/not meeting standards), the flight line will make reasonable efforts to facilitate that student’s training in order that the student can demonstrate the requisite proficiency to pass the lab. The Department will conduct a three-level review (Chief of Program/Director of Flight Operations/Chair of Department). If, in the Department’s professional assessment, the student cannot meet the standards, the student will be withdrawn from the course and refunded the flight lab fee balance from the flight account in TALON/ETA.
If a student does not achieve proficiency requirements within the flight hour parameters defined in the syllabus for any given flight lab, upon Department approval, the student may deposit additional funds to their TALON/ETA account to continue to train to demonstrate proficiency. Students will be required to submit an “Additional Flight Hours” request form with payment (VA will not cover additional hours) to the Student Accounts Office to add additional funds to their flight account. Once the form is processed and payment is confirmed, the Department of Aviation will be notified of the student’s clearance to fly via email from the Student Accounts Office. Should a student fail a flight lab, change degree programs, withdraw from the University, or graduate from the program, any credit from unused “Additional Flight Hours” will be refunded to the student.
