The Undergraduate Online programs were established for the specific purpose of serving the needs of an increasing number of adult and non-traditional students seeking higher education. All Undergraduate Online programs are developed in a fully online format, incorporate a Christian perspective, and are delivered in a year-round semester format to accelerate students toward graduation.

When to Apply

The University implements a rolling admissions practice. Prospective students are encouraged to complete the application process at least four weeks prior to the start of their intended session. Most Online Programs offer two eight-week sessions every semester, providing several admission start dates per year.

Application Procedures

To be considered for admission students are required to submit the following documents:

  • A completed Application for Admission submitted online at https://www.cbuonline.edu/apply.
  • Official transcripts from previously attended colleges and universities, submitted to Admissions.
*An official high school transcript or the equivalent is required for applicants with fewer than twenty-four (24) completed units.

Student Status

Applicants for Online Programs will be considered according to the following classifications:

Standard

Applicants who submit official high school transcripts showing a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.5 and (if applicable) official college or university transcripts showing a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.0 (based on a 4.0 scale).

Conditional

Applicants who met standard admission requirement but are missing official transcripts or other documentation may be admitted on a conditional basis.

Provisional

Applicants who do not meet standard entrance requirements may be granted provisional admission under conditions set by the Admissions and Re-entry Committee.

Special Student

A Special Student is defined as a student who is not working toward a degree at California Baptist University. Students offered Specal Student status are eligible to enroll for up to 30 semester units. To continue beyond 30 units the student must meet admission requirement for Standard status.

CBU Pre-College Credit

With no application fee, eligible high school students can enroll in one online asynchronous course every eight-week session at California Baptist University and receive college credit.*

*Acceptance of transfer college credits is up to the receiving institution.

Eligibility

  • Currently enrolled in high school.*
  • Sophomore-equivalent or higher
  • High school weighted GPA 2.5 or highter (unofficial transcript required)

*High school seniors are not eligible for the Summer semester in which they graduate from high school.

Denial

Denial may occur when an applicant does not qualify for admission in the above categories. California Baptist University also reserves the right to deny admission to applicants who are antagonistic with the philosophy and purpose of the University.

Appeals

Appeals on any decision regarding admission should be made in writing and addressed to the Admission and Re-entry Committee in care of the University. All appeals will be heard by the Committee. The appeals may include a personal interview and additional academic transcripts. Once the appeal is reviewed, the Committee will render a final decision.

The Admission and Re-entry Committee will review students who do not meet the requirements for Standard admission. Upon review of the student’s file, one of the following decisions will be rendered: Standard Admission, Provisional Admission, or Denial.

Readmit

Students who have attended California Baptist University but have discontinued enrollment for one or more semesters must be approved to readmit to the University. Students must submit an Application to Readmit form, pay the required Readmit application fee, and provide all official transcripts from all other institutions attended since last enrolled at California Baptist University. Additional documents or an interview may be required to readmit. Required department clearances must be obtained prior to the start of the semester the student is seeking to readmit.

Students whose application for readmissions are approved will enter under the catalog current at the time of readmission and will be subject to the admissions and degree requirements outline in that catalog. The University is not responsible for providing courses or programs that have been discontinued.

Audit Students

An Audit Student is defined as a student who is not taking classes at California Baptist University for credit. For more information on auditing a class, please see the Academic Information section of this catalog.
