Mission Statement

The Metcalf School of Education’s mission is to prepare educational leaders of high moral character who are equipped with the knowledge and skills needed to create inclusive, lifelong learners throughout the world.

As part of the Great Commission, the faculty and staff are dedicated to their Christian responsibility outlined in Matthew 28:19-20.

“Therefore go and make disciples of all nations…and surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”

Undergraduate Programs in Education, including credential pathways

The School of Education offers undergraduate programs in early childhood studies, elementary education, liberal studies, and secondary education.

The Elementary Education major allows candidates to complete state approved subject matter and credential coursework. Candidates who successfully complete this program will be recommended for a California multiple subject preliminary teaching credential.

Students seeking a Single Subject Credential should be enrolled in an appropriate content area major and declare Preliminary Single Subject Credential as their second major. Individuals who are not enrolled in an appropriate content area major may still be able to earn a single subject credential at the undergraduate level. Individuals in this category should meet with a School of Education advisor.

The Early Childhood Studies major/minor prepares students for careers working with young children and their families in a variety of settings. Students can choose to complete this degree either online or in a traditional in-person format.

The School of Education offers an online degree in Liberal Studies. This degree provides students with a broad knowledge base. A degree in Liberal Studies can currently be used to meet subject matter competence in the state of California. Please contact a School of Education advisor for more information.

California Baptist University’s credential programs are state approved and subject to revision at any time by state or federal law.
