Flex Credential Program: Multiple Subjects Classroom

The Flex Credential Program: Multiple Subjects Classroom program offers candidates the opportunity to earn two or more of the following preliminary credentials: Multiple Subjects, Mild/Moderate, and/or Extensive Service Needs. Candidates that earn more than one credential are (1) prepared to fill teaching positions in high-need fields of public education, and (2) offer employers flexibility in making classroom assignment. Fieldwork and clinical hours are required throughout the program to support transferring course content into pedagogical practices. 

Additional Admissions Requirements


Admission standards for graduate studies at California Baptist University can be found in the admissions section of the University Catalog.  In addition, each candidate must meet the following requirements for this program:

  • Pass the state-administered California Basic Education Skills Test (CBEST) or equivalent prior to admission

  • Met or registered for at least one subtest of the California State Exam (CSET) for the planned credential content area or equivalent

  • Verification of Certificate of Clearance granted prior to admission

Credential Program

This program is designed for candidates seeking two or more of the following preliminary credentials: Multiple Subjects, Mild/Moderate, and/or Extensive Service Needs.  Pathways include:

  • Two credentials: Multiple Subjects and Mild/Moderate requires all General Education Core, all Special Education Core, the Mild/Moderate Only Course, and the following three clinical practice courses EDU 583, EDU 588, SPE 587.
  • Two credentials: Multiple Subjects and Extensive Service Needs requires all General Education Core, all Special Education Core, all Extensive Support Needs Only Course, and the following three clinical practice courses EDU 583, EDU 588, SPE 589.
  • Two credentials: Mild/Moderate and Extensive Service Needs requires completing all General Education Core, all Special Education Core, the Mild/Moderate Only Course, all Extensive Support Needs Only Course, and the following three clinical practice courses EDU 583, SPE 586, SPE 589.
  • Three credentials: Multiple Subjects, Mild/Moderate, and Extensive Service Needs requires completing all General Education Core, all Special Education Core, the Mild/Moderate Only Course, all Extensive Support Needs Only Course, and the following four clinical practice courses EDU 583, EDU 588, SPE 586, and SPE 589.

The Multiple Subject Teaching Credential authorizes the holder to teach all subjects in a self-contained classroom, such as the classrooms in most elementary schools, in grades preschool, K-12, or in classes organized primarily for adults. In addition, the holder of a Multiple Subject Teaching Credential may serve in a core or team teaching setting.

The Mild/Moderate Disabilities Credential includes specific learning disabilities; mild to moderate intellectual disabilities; other health impairment; serious emotional disturbance; and authorizes service in grades K-12 and in classes organized primarily for adults through age 22.

The Extensive Service Needs Credential includes students with a range of learning challenges including autism, deaf-blindness, moderate-to-severe mental disability, multiple disabilities, and serious emotional disturbance. Teachers with this credential are approved to teach in grades K-12 and in adult classes.

Each preliminary credential requires Candidates to complete all State and program requirements. Credential requirements can be obtained from the School of Education Credential Program Advisors.
